The Pool Party Playlist That Makes People Come Up To Me And Ask For The Link
Gifting you the super-successful super-secret playlist I've used over the last three summers.
I made this playlist in 2021 and brought it to a few pool parties that summer, and without fail, someone would come up to me and say, “Wait, did you make this?” or “Can you send me this?” Since then, it’s become my go-to every summer, and friends of mine will send it to friends of theirs, and it kind of now lives as a playlist that exists among existing and adjacent social circles.
There is absolutely a time and place for a pool party playlist full of nostalgic bangers and universally beloved party songs. This one’s a little more elevated: groovy, lowkey, summer-y tracks that work as background music but still catch people’s ears. I have found it to be music that makes people feel cool without being try-hard.
That said, if you do want the more classic version—the “oh my god I forgot about this song!” playlist—I’d be thrilled to make one. Just say the word. But for now, here’s the one that gets me the most compliments.
A few things to expect on this playlist:
Poppy chill anthems
Psychedelic pop cult classics
Turkish, Japanese and Brazilian grooves
French jazz-pop
Percussion that feels especially summery to me
Old disco and nu-disco bops that make me feel like I’m at a glam ‘70s celebrity poolside party
"Harvest Moon" - Poolside (2012)
Spotify | Apple | YouTube Music | TIDAL
This is just a cover of Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” that, to me, is the pool-iest song in the world.
"Terrorize My Heart (Disco Dub)" - 79.5 (2018)
Spotify | Apple | YouTube Music | TIDAL
