Runway Playlist: Songs To Stomp To #1
Last month, I listened to a bunch of playlists from designers and fashion labels. I set aside my favorite songs for you!
Last month, I accidentally spent a hundred hours in a Spotify hole, listening to playlists used as soundtracks for runway shows. You can basically search any designer or fashion house on Spotify, and you’ll be served an endless array of mega-long playlists, their titles capped with things like “PARIS SS24” or “MILAN FW22.”
Of the songs I heard, I saved my favorites in a big playlist of over 100 songs. Today, I give you my first chunk. Take my chunk, please!
What to expect:
If you’ve seen your fair share of runway videos, you’ll know runway music is hardly ever girlboss-Lizzo-poptimism. A creative director debuts their collection and hopes to provoke, inspire, and shake up what you thought you knew about raincoats. I’ve always admired the fashion industry’s ability to make its music equally “unpalatable”—atmospheric or even alienating.
When I think of “classic” runway music, I think the sounds of ballroom culture and house music. And you’ll find that on this playlist. I also associate runway music with dark, cavernous electro-industrial. European dungeon party music.
This playlist has a bit of the “scary stuff”, but I mostly intend for this to be a playlist to be a place where you’ll find your new favorite:
exercise music
song for getting ready before you go out
song for driving at night
music to remind yourself you are hot and perfect and nothing bad has ever happened to you once in your life
energetic around-the-house chores music
Two free songs in the name of balance:
I know I just said the thing about poptimism, so please forgive how poppy this song is. The drop at :55 is just so fun.
“Feels Right” - Biig Piig (2020)

So, to balance it out, here’s a weird one I like that is featured on the playlist:
”Miu” - Marina Herlop
