Hello, my wonderful readers! As I put the finishing touches on a newsletter about Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker—which has been so much fun for me to research and put together—I wanted to share my favorite Christmas songs of all time with you.

When it comes to Christmas music, I am an old soul and, with a few exceptions, prefer Christmas music from before 1980. My family had a CD collection called “Time Life Treasury” full of Christmas songs that we played every single year. The songs felt like they belonged to our family. Many of the songs on this list are from this CD collection.

At the end of the day, whichever Christmas music you grew up listening to is the music that’s always going to feel like the “best” Christmas music. We kicked it old school in our house, though.

Today I present you with a list of my 39 favorite Christmas songs of all time. There are tiny little moments in some of these songs that I want to note and analyze, so a few songs on the track list have little Grace Insights.

And I know I just said the thing about pre-1980s Christmas music, but I gotta make today’s free song one from 1981.

"Christmas Wrapping" - The Waitresses

And to get you into the holiday spirit, here’s a clip from a guy I found on YouTube in a Minions shirt doing the bass part of “Christmas Wrapping.” It’s legitimately good!
