A Six-Hour Playlist For Chores And DIY Projects Around The House

I got a ton of requests for playlists that help with executive function—specifically for cleaning, organizing, or tackling DIY projects around the house. All of these tasks require the same thing: a steady stream of dopamine. But dopamine is personal. For one person, it’s a four-hour Phish live set. For another, it’s “How Bizarre” by OMC.

Because here’s the thing: to finish assembling an Ikea Billy bookcase, I need the easily-distracted part of my brain to be pacified by a sugary, high-dopamine nostalgic '90s banger. I need to be sitting on the floor singing along to every single word of “Semi-Charmed Life” to prevent myself from realizing attaching a shelf to a back panel is actually extremely boring. I tried to employ as much populism as possible when making this playlist, so this is mostly six hours of one-hit wonders and nostalgic crowd pleasers.

I also need to tell you, in a much larger font, that immediately after finishing this playlist, I realized I’d accidentally created an incredible “karaoke ideas” playlist.

"Steal My Sunshine" - LEN (1999)
Spotify | Apple | YouTube Music | TIDAL

"Dancing in the Moonlight" - King Harvest (1973)
Spotify | Apple | YouTube Music | TIDAL
