"Saucy Sailor" - The Wailin' Jennys (2004)

In 2011, I discovered The Wailin Jennys, a vocal-heavy folk trio. At the time, I was commuting every day, driving an hour to Connecticut and then taking a two-hour train into New York City for improv classes. I was an aimless woman who loved vocal harmonies and found The Wailin’ Jennys scored this particular moment in my life perfectly. It’s really good driving music if you are “figuring out your life.”
"Chimacum Rain" - Linda Perhacs (1970)

Linda Perhacs is a psychedelic folk singer whose 1970 album Parallelograms initially went largely unnoticed. Nearly two decades later, it was rediscovered by record collectors and found a new wave of fame. “Chimacum Rain” is Parallelograms’s gorgeous opening track. Beautiful, layered vocals with interesting background vocals for the time!
