"Many Lives → 49mp" - Final Fantasy (2006)

Aside from The Beatles’ Revolver, the earliest memory I have of thinking, “Oh, music can kinda sound weird and unpleasant, but I really like that!” was listening to the album He Poos Clouds from Owen Pallett’s side project, Final Fantasy. I wish, for the life of me, I could remember how I discovered it, because it was early enough in the internet that there was no algorithm to feed it to me. Maybe it was an errant Limewire download that fell into my lap? Whatever the reason, I have a distinct memory of being in eighth grade on my porch, listening to this on my pink iPod. I didn’t know a violin could be used in a song like this. Apple Music and TIDAL users: Listen here.

This track is from a full album of synth-y raga music set to a disco beat. Fun, ’80s, Indian disco. What more could you want?
