15 Songs I'm Digging Right Now: #3
Sometimes a good piano solo can just be bouncin' around on some octaves!
Hello, my beautiful subscribers. Happy Friday 15 to you and yours. Here’s 15 songs I’ve been digging this week.
First up is Father John Misty’s new single. Or: Father John Misty visits the disco saloon!

I love the Sympathy-For-The-Devil-ass percussion. I love the horns. But my favorite part in this funky 8+ minute song is this piano solo:
Sometimes a great piano solo can be a guy just bouncin’ around on some octaves.
I tried to think of some other examples of this. My first and only thought was the piano solo in “Kate” by Ben Folds Five. But then I listened and realized these are not octaves. There’s a note in the middle. But I’m including a clip of that solo because the vibe is similar enough for me:
If you know any good octave-y piano solos, please leave them in the comments.
This week, free subscribers are getting an extra song because I’m in a really good mood right now. Be grateful, piggies!
2. “Two Lines” - Chassoll
Spotify | Apple Music | YouTube Music | TIDAL | Amazon Music
Christophe Chassol is a very cool French composer who’s composed, arranged, and been musical director for the likes of Frank Ocean, Solange and Phoenix.
I love the way the synth matches the varying pitches of his speaking voice in “Two Lines.” Is it talking? Is it singing? It’s almost vocalese?
